I Don’t Know

Posted in Quote by homeyra on November 15, 2006

I don’t know if a lazy (listless) genius is a loss to humanity, but the untalented (asinine) workaholic certainly is.

the sentence is quite trickily phrased. do you mean the existence of a listless genius/talenless workaholic is like a negative addition to the world (i.e. we’re better off without them?)

    Ok, I try again:
We will never know if a listless genius is a loss to humanity, but the talentless workaholic sure is.
    Sounds better?

not quite. is the loss of a listeless genius etc. a loss to humanity or his/her existence?

I meant we will never know if his laziness will be a loss to humanity… I am not in the extermination business 🙂

    Then I should rephrase:
We will never know if the genius’ laziness will be a loss to humanity, but the activities of the untalented workholic sure are.
    What about that?

    aahhh i seee….so you mean…
does the laziness of a lazy genius take away from our collective humanity as much as the activities of an untalented workaholic does?

hmm….i dont think so. but i’m not sure. i can’t imagine how it would.

ps. it looks as though segolene has won…apparently by a huge margin too….

Seems the Video didn’t matter that much!

    Can we settle for:
We will never know if the laziness of a genius takes away from our collective humanity as much as the activities of an untalented workaholic?

I dont know…it seems to me to be a bit more entropic than that. i think i dont like the idea of taking away from humanity…we can talk about it not contribuiting anythign to humanity..but to take away from it?
and an untalented workaholic can be pretty useful at times…it all depends on the task he’s given. If it’s picking rice from a field…a talentless workaholic is idea! you dont want someone with talent picking rice!

That’s a good point Loopy! The statement/observation/thought/question starts with: we will never know…. which one is more harmfull. I have never had a such an active tread so far btw 🙂
