Oh my, what a treat to come here and find my articles linked.
I first became interested in Emmett about 15 years ago when I bought a Bob Dylan songbook to learn some songs. The Ballad of Emmett Till was one of the songs in the book. I had never heard Dylan perform it until I wrote the first article and found the link I posted there.
It was the story Dylan told in the song which caught my attention and I learned to play it on my guitar. I was surprised when I actually heard it to find that my rendition was fairly close to the way he performed it. At the time I didn’t even know if it was a true story or not.
Then one day I saw the headline about the case being reopened and it got me going on the article.
This picture is so alive, and it reminds you of so many similar stories all around the world. There seem to be so many that it is almost difficult to look at one of them. Thank you to have it posted in the first place.
What a funny (small) world. My old roommate was crazy about Bob Dylan. I remember his other song about the innocent boxer behind the bars. Dylan and Joan Baez where two of his favorite artists. I didn’t get to appreciate him till much later. I had read Emmet Tills story in the paper, now and then, when there is some activity in the court case.
