Amazing Louise

American born Louise Firouz (Laylin) passed away at the age of 74 in Iran

Louise Firouz is known as the reviver of the Caspian horse and the best breeder of Turkmen horses in Iran. She also operated adventure horse-treks in northern Iran. The journeys have been listed by The Times as among the top 10 rides in the world.

Those Caspian ponies are certainly gorgeous, and it is easy to see how they would be ancestors to Arabians. Whenever I see a Turkoman horse it makes me think how badly we need some of that stock in our race horses. So it was interesting to see that Firouz was thinking along the same lines. I cracked up at the point where she told her doctor she wasn’t too old to ride, just too old to fall off….

Yes! I was going to quote her on that, but somehow felt that it didn’t fit this “obituary” post. Glad you mentioned it 🙂

What an interesting life story. I always learn something new when I visit here. I did a quick search to learn more about her and apart from an obituary in the Washington Post, there’s not much (so I got my breaking news from here as well!) 🙂
