Forever Under Construction

Let’s Kick Ass

Posted in Blogosphere, Friends by homeyra on August 20, 2008

One day, almost out of nowhere, someone shows up at your blog, writes a comment and a friendship is born. That’s what happened with Gina, aka The Pagan Sphinx. Since, I have an eye on a slice of her life, her tastes and her generous world view.

For some reason she thinks that I “kick ass” and she has bestowed me a Kick Ass Award!

Thank you Gina 🙂 🙂 🙂

That’s the idea: “Do you know any bloggers that kick ass?

Maybe they’ve got incredible, original content. Or they’re overflowing with creativity. Is it someone that helps you become a better blogger? Or a bloggy friend you know you can count on? Or maybe it’s someone who simply inspires you to be a better person… or someone else who sends you to the floor, laughing your ass off…

————————

Nothing but these words -“kick ass”- makes me think immediately of neufneuf! Sorry if I am back to the usual suspects, but she is The universal kick-ass-er, on earth and in outer space. She has been kicking mine for a while now 🙂

“Or maybe it’s someone who simply inspires you to be a better person …” Now this makes me think of PPGG, aka Ann El Khoury, or Reclaiming Space same as Peoples Geography. She is erudite, she is gracious even with her most nasty visitors. She inspires and strives toward a better world.

Which makes me think of another blogger/friend, a real inspiration. No – I won’t name him – he might find the title of the award disrespectful considering his line of work 🙂

Proggiemuslima also qualifies: Right in the midst of the war of terror here is an American turned Muslim – although I bet this wasn’t the real reason. Isn’t this enough to make you a “kick ass”? She doesn’t like “to be told”. She has a great sense of humor, which appears when she finds the time in her busy life to add her personal salt to the news.

In these troubled times, probably by temperament rather than by choice, Eatbees’ blog is where East meets West. He can address difficult subjects concerning both parties. He manages to keep the trust and friendship of a great variety of readers. And as if this wasn’t enough, he will answer your long emails with even longer emails with honesty and wit.

Now, if you all will: Choose five other bloggers that you feel are “Kick Ass Bloggers” and let them know.

99 does indeed kick ass. The only reason I didn’t give her this award also is because I thought she might eschew such things…but who knows…

You mean she won’t miss the occasion to kick you know what!? I take my chances 🙂

The Pagan Sphinx has picked le mot juste, and Homie-Banoo knows it! I eschew blog awards!

    … in favor of kicking ass…. 😛

“Un-named” tells me he is highly flattered and not at all offended. You are kind!
BTW, I agree with you about Ann’s amazing graciousness, and have mentioned it to her. I expect she accomplishes a great deal through he utter lack of defensiveness. I want to be like that!

Thanks for the shout-out and I see I’m in good company, as usual here at FoC!

    Very 99, 99:)
I am glad Monte. And we have the same blog-model:) Great and very elegant picture of you on 99’s sidebar.
Welcome eatbees:) Plus on est de fou …

Thanks Homie, I am honoured my friend; moreso to be in such fine company. Congratulations for having been nominated yourself. As well as yourself, I would also have considered Monte, 99 and the others right up there: Monte is an exemplar for intelligent compassion and I’ve often thought that his community is lucky to have him. 99, the button has disappeared from your sidebar (always full of interesting things), but I wonder whether we can still use Bellicoscenti: perhaps its vernacular cousin-phrase Kick Ass is even better! 😉

If I may add, I think The Pagan Sphinx has put it beautifully:

” … this blogger from Iran is a relentless advocate not only for peace in the Middle East but also for showing the rich cultural, religious and social heritage of the area via her blog. I’ve many times learned something new or seen profound images on her blog. Homey is also a lovely woman, which comes across in her response to comments, her writing and her email communication. I feel lucky to know Homey in many ways …

  10. […] about culture and politics from Tehran. Don’t miss this chance to get to know Homeyra and the other folks she considers Kick Ass Bloggers. (There are five of us.) Trust me, Homeyra’s friends should […]

Yes, I have removed the Great Seal of the Leader of the Enlightened Bellicoscenti from my sidebar. It just didn’t seem to hold up, style-wise…. And I’ve taken to mixing up my sidebar quite a bit anyway because people cease to see the sidebar really quickly if you do not. I mean, what’s the point of having one anymore, since Technorati sunsets blog authority from it after a few months nowadays? We wanted to confer that honor on those people, and now we have to do things like put our whole sidebar in a post every so often if we want them to keep it. And if the wonderful stuff we park there for posterity does not filter into the consciousness of visitors after a while, what kind of posterity is that, after all? Oblivion.

I want to root out as much meaninglessness, and substandard style, as possible before I die.

I love donkeys! I’m chuffed they are associated with these filthy useless ill-dressed and puffy Democrats… otherwise I would proudly display them in reference to myself regularly. Their disinclination to comply with the demands of morons is reason enough to adore them, but those posturing politicians have co-opted this sterling symbolism!

Maybe I should seek out a graphic artist to redo that seal! 😛

Gina is too kind PPGG 🙂
That’s an idea: a 99 award of the Order of Enlightened Bellicoscenti!

Aw, shucks! Thanks for the award, homeyra! I haven’t had time to post as often as I used to, but I’m glad to know someone’s still paying attention! 🙂

Huh, that’s the photo from my denomination’s district website. 99 is creative! And searchy!

I’m searchy as heck for a wealthy socialist! I need husband material! I’ve tried everything! I’ve begged my friends to help me find him! Nothing works!

    !!!!!!!!!!!!! 😛
